Jerry Jones Fires Back During Radio Interview: Takes Issue with Cowboys’ Offseason Criticism

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t hold back during his weekly radio appearance on Tuesday at 105.3 The Fan in Dallas with hosts Shan Shariff and RJ Choppy. The heated exchange came just two days after the Cowboys suffered a humiliating 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, a defeat that marred Jones’ 82nd birthday.

Questions About Offseason Rankle Jones

During the interview with Shariff and Choppy, Jones, who also serves as the team’s general manager, was visibly irritated by questions surrounding the Cowboys’ perceived lack of significant offseason moves. His dual role underscores the weight of his decisions, and it was clear he didn’t appreciate the line of questioning.

“This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over all the reasons that I did something, and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job,” Jones shot back at the hosts. “I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions, men. I’m not kidding.”

Jones Defends the Cowboys’ Roster Decisions

Jones didn’t stop there, even appearing to threaten the jobs of the radio hosts. “You’re not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong,” Jones added. “If you are, or any five or ten like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting that I’m going to today with 32 teams here; you’re geniuses.”

Despite the Cowboys’ shaky start to the season, Jones was quick to defend the team’s major offseason moves, especially the record-breaking contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

“We’ve just made our quarterback the highest-paid player in the NFL. We just topped the receiver list charts,” Jones emphasized. “We made our bed relative to how we’re going to approach with our key people.”

Acknowledging the Lions’ Dominance

While Jones was eager to defend his roster, he didn’t ignore the Cowboys’ poor performance against Detroit. He credited the Lions for their aggressive play, which had a significant impact on the game, especially in pressuring Dallas’ offensive line and quarterback Dak Prescott.

“Now I’m going to give Detroit a lot of credit. They came after us and got after us… they put the kind of pressure that gave Dak a lot of problems and gave our running game a lot of problems,” Jones admitted.

Time to Regroup During Bye Week

As the Cowboys head into their bye week, the team has a crucial opportunity to reflect and regroup. Their next challenge comes on October 27, when they face the formidable San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, California. With a 3-3 record, Dallas will be looking to bounce back and salvage their season, making the upcoming bye week all the more important.
