Jimmy Carter Votes in Hospice, Reportedly for Kamala Harris

Fulfilling a Personal Goal

Former President Jimmy Carter, now 100 years old, has reportedly achieved his goal of casting a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, a decision that resonates in the current political climate. His daughter-in-law Becky Payne delivered the former president’s ballot to the Sumter County Courthouse in Americus, Georgia, according to reports.

Carter’s Health and Voting Spirit

Carter’s son, Chip Carter, expressed his father’s optimism after casting his vote. “It was a good morning for him, and good for us that he got it done,” Chip told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While the Carter Center did not confirm the recipient of Carter’s vote, Chip confidently stated that his father, a lifelong Democrat, had “never voted for a Republican.”

Commitment to Voting and Harris’s Legacy

Chip had previously shared that his father had a personal goal of living long enough to cast a vote for Kamala Harris, further highlighting the admiration the former president has for her. This sentiment was reinforced by Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, at the Democratic National Convention, where he declared that Harris carries on his grandfather’s legacy.

A Historic Milestone

Jimmy Carter, who turned 100 on October 1, made history as the first U.S. president to reach this age. Despite the significant loss of his wife Rosalynn last year, the former president has remained dedicated to his civic duties. He has been in hospice care since February and appeared publicly for the first time in months on his 100th birthday, joined by family to watch a flyover of Navy F-18 jets.

Early Voting in Georgia

With early voting underway in Georgia, Carter’s vote is among more than 300,000 ballots cast since the process began on Tuesday, according to data from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
