Florida Man Arrested for Allegedly Brandishing Machete at Elderly Woman Near Voting Site

A Florida man has been taken into custody following an alarming incident at an early voting site in Neptune Beach, where he allegedly raised a machete toward a 71-year-old woman during a confrontation, according to Neptune Beach Police Chief Michael Key Jr. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Caleb James Williams, reportedly engaged in an altercation involving two women outside the polling station, with tensions escalating when he allegedly lifted the machete over his head in a threatening manner.

Incident Unfolds as U.S. Election Nears

The altercation comes as Americans prepare for the closely watched Nov. 5 election between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, heightening concerns over safety and voter intimidation at polling sites. Williams, who appeared with a group of six minors allegedly there to protest opposing political views, now faces charges of improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault on a person aged 65 or older, according to records from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Group’s Alleged Disruptive Intentions

Chief Key stated during a press conference that the group, which included Williams, seemed intent on causing a disturbance. Describing their intentions as “ill,” Key suggested the group’s purpose was to incite tension rather than peacefully demonstrate. Authorities did not disclose whether additional group members were cited or detained. However, during their protest, the group reportedly displayed a “Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Trump” flag.

Attack on Voting Rights Denounced

Chief Key condemned the event as a deliberate attempt to intimidate voters, calling it “an attack on voting rights.” Displaying a photo allegedly showing Williams smiling with the machete held aloft in a parking lot, Key emphasized the need to protect public spaces during the election period. No attorney information was available for Williams at the time of reporting, and police continued to investigate the incident’s entire context and any potential actions by others in the group.

The incident underscores rising tensions as Americans cast their ballots. Authorities are urging voters to report any suspicious behavior to maintain a safe and secure election environment.
