Prime Video and Diamond Sports Group Join Forces: A New Era for Regional Sports Streaming
In a significant move for sports fans nationwide, Diamond Sports Group announced Wednesday a multiyear partnership with Prime Video to bring its 16 regional sports network (RSN) channels to the streaming platform as an add-on subscription. This collaboration will allow fans to stream their local games, including NBA, NHL, and MLB matchups, through Prime Video’s FanDuel Sports Network channels, available exclusively to customers within each team’s designated region. Covering 31 states, this expansion is set to bring more games directly to fans in a convenient streaming format.
Diamond CEO Highlights Strategic Opportunity
“Partnering with Prime Video, one of the largest streaming destinations in the U.S., and making FanDuel Sports Network available as part of their add-on subscriptions creates a tremendous opportunity for us to expand our reach and better connect with viewers,” said Diamond CEO David Preschlack. “Our partnerships with Prime Video and FanDuel, alongside our agreements with team, league, and distribution partners, are central to transforming our business.”
Bankruptcy Reorganization on the Horizon
Diamond Sports Group, currently navigating Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Southern District of Texas, will have a final hearing for its reorganization plan on Thursday. This development follows a series of financial restructuring steps since Diamond’s initial filing in March 2023 to manage its $8.67 billion debt. The partnership with Prime Video, which earlier this year secured a minority stake in Diamond Sports, is expected to be a cornerstone in revamping Diamond’s business model and customer experience.
New Subscription Options and Pricing for Fans
For those interested in tuning in to specific games, Diamond will begin offering single-game pricing for NBA and NHL matchups starting December 5, priced at $6.99 per game. Fans will also have the option to subscribe to monthly or season passes, enhancing flexibility for how and when they watch their favorite teams. Diamond currently holds broadcasting rights for 13 NBA teams and eight NHL teams and has agreements with five MLB teams for the 2025 season, with additional negotiations ongoing.
MLB and Braves Withdraw Objections
The reorganization effort took another step forward Wednesday night when Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves withdrew their objections to the plan, signaling optimism for a smooth transition and a stronger, more viewer-friendly sports broadcasting future.
