Chaos in New Orleans: Two Dead, Ten Injured in Separate Shootings During Parade

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is investigating two separate shooting incidents that disrupted a cultural parade on Sunday afternoon, leaving the city shaken. Twelve people were shot in total, with two fatalities confirmed by Sunday night.

Nine Victims Shot Near Parade Route

Around 3:30 p.m., officers stationed at the event — a traditional parade with live brass band music — responded to gunfire near the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue in the Fifth District. Upon arriving, they discovered nine individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency services transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions remain undisclosed as of now.

Second Shooting Results in Two Deaths

Approximately 45 minutes later, gunfire erupted at a nearby location. Officers arriving on the scene found two victims with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead on-site, while the other succumbed to injuries at the hospital. A third individual, reportedly involved in the same incident, sought medical attention privately and is in stable condition.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not established a connection between the two shootings aside from their proximity and timing. The NOPD shut down the parade immediately to preserve evidence and ensure public safety.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies to determine the exact cause of death and will release the identities of the deceased once their families have been notified.

Detectives are working diligently to gather evidence, identify suspects, and uncover a motive. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A City in Mourning

The violent events have overshadowed the spirit of celebration that the parade represents, leaving residents grappling with fear and grief. Community leaders are calling for collective action to address gun violence and provide support to the affected families.

As investigations continue, New Orleans mourns the loss of lives and faces difficult questions about the safety of its cherished traditions.
