CBS Releases Full Kamala Harris Interview Transcript Amid Trump Lawsuit
Network Denies Editing Was “Doctored or Deceitful”
CBS’ “60 Minutes” has publicly released the unedited transcript of its October interview with Kamala Harris, asserting that it proves the broadcast was neither manipulated nor misleading. The network’s move comes in response to Donald Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit, in which he accused CBS of doctoring the interview to favor Harris.
Trump’s $10 Billion Lawsuit Against CBS
Trump filed the lawsuit against CBS in November, alleging that the network’s editing of the interview unfairly benefited Harris, his Democratic opponent at the time. The lawsuit is reportedly the subject of ongoing settlement negotiations.
Separately, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) last week requested CBS provide transcripts and clips of the interview. CBS complied, and shortly after, made the full transcript public.
Key Controversy Over Israel Question
The interview, which aired in parts on both “60 Minutes” and “Face the Nation,” sparked controversy when clips appeared to show Harris giving different answers to a question about Israel posed by correspondent Bill Whitaker.
Trump’s lawsuit claims the editing was done to benefit Harris ahead of the election. However, CBS maintains the released transcript confirms that the interview was presented accurately and fairly.
CBS Defends Editing Process
In a statement Wednesday, CBS reiterated that the “60 Minutes” broadcast was not altered to deceive viewers. The network emphasized that journalists regularly edit interviews for clarity, time, and space without distorting the truth.
“In making these edits, ‘60 Minutes’ is always guided by the truth and what we believe will be most informative to the viewing public, all while working within the constraints of broadcast television,” CBS said.
Paramount Reportedly in Settlement Talks
Despite CBS’s strong defense, its parent company, Paramount, is reportedly engaged in settlement talks over the lawsuit. The discussions come as Paramount seeks approval from the Trump administration for a potential sale to entertainment firm Skydance.
