The U.S. Secret Service is facing severe criticism following a shooting incident at a political rally for former President Donald Trump on Sunday. A 20-year-old gunman from Pennsylvania managed to bypass security and open fire, injuring Trump and fatally wounding an attendee.
The assailant, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, used a rooftop position approximately 150 yards (140 meters) from the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, to carry out the attack. The Secret Service quickly surrounded Trump, 78, and escorted him to safety. Crooks was subsequently shot dead by agents, and an AR-15-style rifle was recovered at the scene.
