A gunman, identified as a 42-year-old white man, opened fire at a water park in Rochester Hills, Michigan, on Saturday. The incident occurred around 5 PM at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad, a popular city park where visitors enjoy playing in fountains of water

The attack resulted in nine people being shot, including two children. Among the victims are an 8-year-old boy, who is in critical condition after being shot in the head, and his 4-year-old brother, who sustained a leg wound and is in stable condition. Six other victims, all aged 30 or over, are in stable condition.This group includes a husband and wife, as well as a 78-year-old man.

Authorities described the shooting as a “random” act. The gunman, who lived with his mother, appeared to have planned the attack. He drove to the park, approached the water recreation area, and fired up to 28 times, pausing multiple times to reload. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown

Police were alerted to the incident within two minutes of the initial 911 call and swiftly arrived at the scene. Deputies provided first aid, including applying tourniquets to the victims. A handgun and three empty magazines were recovered from the scene

The shooting has deeply shaken the Rochester Hills community. Mayor Bryan Barnett described the event as a “gut punch” and a stark reminder of the fragility of safety in public spaces.
