Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill Detained by Police Before Season Opener
In a surprising turn of events, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was briefly handcuffed and detained by police on Sunday morning while en route to Hard Rock Stadium. The incident, captured in shocking videos circulating on social media, unfolded just hours before the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Incident Details
According to reports from ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Hill was pulled over about a block from the stadium after being cited for reckless driving. Tensions reportedly escalated when the 30-year-old receiver had an altercation with the officer, resulting in Hill being pinned to the ground and placed in handcuffs. He was released shortly afterward.
The Miami Dolphins quickly released a statement confirming the incident, saying, “This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released.”
Teammates Offer Support
Several Dolphins players, who were on their way to the stadium, stopped at the scene to offer Hill their support. The team reassured fans, stating that Hill and all other players involved had safely arrived at the stadium and were available for the game.
Despite the brief detainment, Hill is still expected to play in the Dolphins’ matchup against the Jaguars.
Agent Responds
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, expressed his frustration with the situation during an appearance on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown. “I’m very distraught about it. We’re going to have to look into it,” Rosenhaus said, describing the incident as “completely unnecessary” and suggesting they may take further action.
As of now, no official charges have been filed, and the incident is under review.
