TikTok has announced that it is taking action in response to a cyberattack that attacked multiple celebrity and brand accounts, including CNN and Paris Hilton.

The social video app revealed that, following notification from its security team of malevolent actors targeting the United States news organization, CNN’s stream was one of a select few well-known accounts compromised.

A TikTok representative stated, “We have been working closely with CNN to restore account access and implement enhanced security measures to safeguard their account going forward.”

Hilton was reportedly targeted, but TikTok also disclosed that the reality TV star’s account was unhacked.

The Associated Press was informed by the short-form video-sharing platform that the attack happened via the app’s direct messaging function, but the platform withheld further information. The incident is currently being looked into, and affected account owners are being assisted in their efforts to regain access.
