Trump Appoints Devin Nunes as Key Intelligence Advisor, Assigns Richard Grenell to Critical Global Missions
President-elect Donald Trump has named Devin Nunes, CEO of his social media platform Truth Social, to head the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. He also announced that Richard Grenell, his former acting Director of National Intelligence, will take on special assignments in volatile regions like Venezuela and North Korea.
Nunes Brings Congressional Expertise to Advisory Role
Nunes, a former U.S. lawmaker and close ally of Trump, will continue to lead Trump Media & Technology Group while serving on the advisory board. This panel provides oversight and recommendations on intelligence matters. Trump highlighted Nunes’s prior role as chair of the House Intelligence Committee, where he led investigations into alleged FBI misconduct during the Russia probe.
“Devin will use his deep knowledge and experience to provide independent analysis of the intelligence community’s operations,” Trump said, referring to Nunes’s prominent role in challenging the 2016 Russia investigation.
Grenell Takes on Global “Hotspots”
Grenell, who held top intelligence and diplomatic roles during Trump’s first term, has been designated as “Presidential Envoy for Special Missions.” Trump outlined Grenell’s upcoming responsibilities in areas like Venezuela and North Korea, emphasizing a focus on advancing U.S. interests through strength.
“Ric will address some of the world’s most challenging regions, ensuring that peace and stability remain priorities,” Trump said in his Truth Social announcement.
Kash Patel Named to Lead FBI
In a separate update, Trump shared plans to nominate Kash Patel as FBI director. Patel, a former aide to Nunes, has been a staunch critic of the intelligence community’s handling of the Russia investigation.
Other Key Appointments
Trump also announced several additional nominees, including IBM executive Troy Edgar as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security. Business leaders Bill White and Edward Walsh have been tapped for ambassadorial roles in Belgium and Ireland, respectively.
A New Vision for Intelligence
These appointments reflect Trump’s broader strategy to reform U.S. intelligence and foreign policy, with a renewed focus on accountability and effectiveness. As he prepares for his second term, Trump has pledged to scrutinize officials and institutions that he believes acted against him during his presidency.
